Got the 7 yr old addicted to Buffy.. dialogue & characterization are BY FAR superior to any of the dumb shows designed for kids. If she'll be imitating anyone, Buffy is a much better choice than Hannah Montana.

So, as TV shows go, Buffy is pretty much the best one that ever was, in my opinion. But it's not perfect.

For example, in Whisper of the Heart, my favorite thing is when the fourteen year old girl talks to her family about her intentions to quit school and write a book. They express misgivings and they are not happy with her plan, but they listen and they pay attention to HER and when they realize she really wants to do this, they AGREE and they support her in her scary decision. Her family is not against her, they don't try to force her into doing what THEY think is right, they are on her side.

This is 100% missing from Buffy. Her mother doesn't see her, doesn't know her, and the two of them are unable to talk to each other. Her mother loves her and wants the best for her, left the man she thought to spend the rest of her life with, for Buffy. Is willing to pick up an axe and fight monsters for her. But in the end, her mother fails her. I really really mind that.

But at least the adults in the show are not stupid and/or evil. Not all knowing and wise. They care and they try to listen, and sometimes they make honest mistakes.. And they are not one-dimensional, and sometimes they surprise us by having a secret mean streak ;)
